Our Lady and St Brendan's Catholic Primary School is committed to meeting the requirements of the new national primary curriculum which was introduced in September 2014.
Our schemes of work have been updated to reflect the content and challenge of the new curriculum.
The curriculum is taught with the consideration of the needs of all learners. Our curriculum is exciting and encourages children to nurture a passion for independent lifelong learning. Topics are linked to Educational Visits and Visitors to further inspire the children to discover more about the areas of learning, together with after school activities.
In EYFS and Year 1 we use Letters and Sounds and Phonics Play for the teaching of phonics, reading and writing. The scheme then becomes an intervention for children in Year 2 and above who need phonic reinforcement.
Across school we also use a range of Reading Schemes, such as Rigby Star, Oxford Reading Tree to support the children's development of reading.
Children across school have their full entitlement to Reading, Writing, Maths, PE and RE. These subjects are often taught in the morning.
Our RE curriculum is supported by 'The Way, the Truth and the Life' scheme as recommended by the Diocese of Leeds.
Other subjects are taught across the week, often together in 'Topic' work. We have specialist support for Music and Singing across the school.
PE is supported by a specialist PE teacher, from Sports UK, who works with all children across the school throughout the year.
