Year 3 - St. Christopher Class
Miss Humphrey teaches the pupils in Year 3 supported by Mrs Wheelhouse.
This half term our Geography topic is Volcanoes. We will be looking at the question 'What is beneath our feet' and exploring the centre of the Earth. We will look at tectonic plates and how the Earth moves. We will be finding out all about volcanic eruptions and where in the world they happen. This links closely with our English module, as we are studying poetry. We are looking in particular at The Volcano by Judi Billcliff. We will be focusing upon the vocabulary used and up levelling the words to create our own volcano poetry.
In Maths we are focusing on measuring; length, capacity and weight. We are exploring what we measure day to day and why. Children are encouraged to have a look at home for the reasons we might need to measure things for example when baking a cake. We will be using our previous work on place value and calculations as we compare, add, subtract and convert units of measure.
In RE our topic this half term is 'Called to Change' which is centred around the story of Zacchaeus. We have been reflecting upon New Year’s Resolutions and how we can change our actions to ensure that we follow God's path at all times.
